Your allowance comes from the airline, ticket and purchased options, not the terminal. Check the booking first, then use the comparison to choose and pack a suitable bag.

Charleroi Terminal 1 or Terminal 2: plan your airport journey
Charleroi airport drop-off: Express, P1, P2 and longer stays
Read the booking before buying luggage
Identify the allowance for each passenger and each journey. An option purchased for the outward flight is not automatically included on the return. Fare-bundle names can change; the bags explicitly shown in your reservation are more useful than memories of a previous trip. Save confirmation of the purchased option where it remains accessible without a data connection.
Ryanair’s 10 kg checked bag goes in the hold and must be dropped off before security. It is not the second cabin bag included with Priority. The same weight therefore describes two different services. If different airlines operate separate stages, the bag must comply with each applicable policy or you must buy the appropriate baggage option for that stage.

Measure the packed bag, not the catalogue label
Measure a closed, packed bag in its normal shape. Full pockets, wheels and protruding handles can change its external size. Compare external measurements and the airline’s measurement rules, rather than assuming a volume in litres proves compliance. A soft backpack can become too deep when tightly packed, even if it fitted easily when empty.
The published Wizz Air Priority trolley depth is 23 cm, compared with 20 cm for Ryanair. Travellers using both airlines can simplify packing by selecting a bag within the more restrictive dimensions. A shop’s description of a universal cabin suitcase is not an airline acceptance guarantee. Compatibility depends on both the bag’s size and the allowance actually purchased.
Priority boarding is not airport Fast Track
Priority is an airline option linked to boarding and the baggage allowance stated in the reservation. Airport Fast Track concerns a priority route through security. Buying one does not automatically provide the other. Neither service removes document checks or permits a larger bag than the booking allows.
A checked-baggage fare may suit a longer trip, while a personal bag can work for a short stay. Compare the final options price across every flight before paying. If a bag must be placed in the hold at the gate, ask staff how to handle spare batteries, valuables, documents and necessary medication. Keep the items you need in transit accessible rather than buried in the case.
Prepare liquids for a separate security check
Airline baggage rules and airport security are separate controls. The general BSCA guidance uses containers of up to 100 ml inside one transparent resealable one-litre bag. Container capacity matters: a half-empty 200 ml bottle is still a 200 ml container. Organise toiletries before leaving instead of repacking at the screening queue.
Necessary medicines and baby food have specific arrangements. Keep them accessible and check the applicable procedure in advance. Review airline restrictions for spare batteries, electronics and unusual items too. A video showing different scanners at another airport does not establish that the same equipment or procedure is available at Charleroi. Follow staff instructions at the checkpoint.
Checks at T1, T2 and the boarding gate
Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 do not create different baggage entitlements. Checks may take place at the desk or boarding gate. A sizer tests the bag’s actual external size; a case that cannot fit comfortably may not comply with the purchased option. Leave packing margin rather than relying on squeezing a bag into the limit.
Before joining the queue, organise small items within the baggage allowance stated on the ticket. If an additional fee is requested, establish the reason, the service being charged and how to obtain a receipt. Do not assume an airport charge equals the online options price. Fees and availability vary, so this guide does not publish a universal gate fee or promise that an upgrade can always be added at the last minute.
Choose luggage for repeated use
For an under-seat bag, useful features include an opening that lets you reach documents without emptying everything. A light base and repairable zips can be more valuable than a heavy shell on a very small bag. Test straps and carrying comfort with the expected load. Carrying an empty display bag for a minute is not a realistic travel test.
For a trolley, compare empty weight, wheel durability and space taken by the handle mechanism. Do not buy a bigger size simply because it costs the same. A discreet contact label and a separate liquids pouch can improve organisation without creating an extra baggage allowance. Start with measured dimensions and practical use, then consider brand and appearance.
Travelling together: match each bag to a booking
Before departure, record which traveller holds each option and which bag belongs with it. A group reservation does not mean all allowances can automatically be pooled: check the policy for the purchased product. Avoid putting everyone’s documents and essentials in the trolley of a person joining a different queue. Repeat the check on the return if purchases change the luggage volume or members of the group fly back on different dates. A photograph of packed bags and a short checklist can help organisation, but neither replaces measurement nor guarantees airline acceptance.
A final packing check and our verification method
The evening before departure, review the reservation, weigh packed bags and keep essentials with the bag that stays with you. Organise children’s documents so they can be reached quickly. Avoid putting every payment method or all necessary medication in one checked bag. Consider how you would manage if that bag arrived later than you.
The table follows the official airline policies reviewed on 22 October 2026. Option prices, exceptional items and route-specific requirements must still be checked in the reservation. Our buying advice is a practical method, not a suitcase certification. Review the allowance again before the return journey, particularly if shopping has increased the volume you need to carry.
Frequently asked questions
Is Ryanair’s small bag still 40 × 20 × 25 cm?
The official policy reviewed now gives 40 × 30 × 20 cm. Check the rule attached to your journey before packing.
Does a 55 × 40 × 23 cm Wizz Air trolley fit Ryanair’s allowance?
Not automatically. Ryanair’s published second cabin-bag limit is 55 × 40 × 20 cm, and all three dimensions must comply.
Does Fast Track include a second cabin bag?
No. Airport Fast Track concerns security access; baggage allowance is set by the airline and ticket.
Is a 10 kg checked bag a cabin bag?
No. A checked-baggage service means carriage in the hold and drop-off before security.
