Compare Charleroi rentals using the same dates, driver details and return conditions. A daily rate does not reveal how much will be held on your card or what you might pay after damage. Build a complete comparison before booking.
Confirm CRL and the actual branch
Charleroi Brussels South uses airport code CRL and is different from Brussels Airport at Zaventem. Check the branch name and address, particularly when a comparison website labels a location simply Brussels. The official pages consulted confirm SIXT and Europcar branches at Charleroi; this is neither a ranking nor a complete operator directory. Read the chosen company’s own collection instructions. A cheaper branch away from the terminal may involve a shuttle, waiting time or opening hours that do not suit the flight. Verify the location before comparing headline prices.
Compare like-for-like reservations
Use identical collection and return times for each quotation. A small difference can change the charged rental period under the applicable terms. Include any additional driver, child seat, mileage requirement and one-way return. Check vehicle class, transmission and boot space against the luggage you actually intend to carry. A photograph may illustrate a category rather than guarantee the exact model. Save the full quotation and the conditions attached to it. A screenshot showing only a price does not explain the booking, included protection or restrictions you accepted when completing the purchase.
| Cost or condition | Question for every supplier | Evidence to keep |
|---|---|---|
| Branch | CRL, on-site desk or transfer? | Official address and instructions |
| Total price | Same times, driver and extras? | Complete dated quotation |
| Deposit | What amount and accepted card? | Payment conditions |
| Protection | Exact excess and exclusions? | Cover wording |
| Return | Fuel, hours, keys and inspection? | Return instructions |
Card deposit and damage excess are different
A security hold on a card is not the same as the excess applying to damage. Ask for the deposit amount for your chosen category, the accepted payment cards and the name required on the card. Prepayment does not necessarily remove the need for a guarantee at collection. Check the available limit before travelling, without assuming a virtual or debit card will work. Release of blocked funds can also depend on the banking process. Do not plan the rest of the holiday around the assumption that a hold disappears immediately after returning the keys.
Read the cover rather than the marketing label
European guidance states that third-party liability insurance should be included in the rental price. Additional products cover different risks. Compare damage, theft, glass, tyres, underbody, administrative charges and exclusions in the actual contract. An external excess-reimbursement policy may require you to pay the rental company first and claim back later; it may not remove the deposit. Clarify whom to contact after an incident and which documents will be required. A product described as complete or premium still needs to be understood in terms of its written scope and conditions.
Collection after a delayed flight
Provide the flight number where requested and check the late-arrival procedure. A promise of round-the-clock returns does not establish that a staffed desk will wait for every late arrival. The SIXT page consulted distinguishes collection instructions from return arrangements in the airport rental area associated with P1. Follow the current instructions for your own booking. If the flight changes, contact the branch through an official channel and retain its reply. Do not assume that every message sent to a booking intermediary reaches the local team responsible for releasing your vehicle.
Inspect before leaving the car park
Compare the condition report with the actual vehicle. Photograph its sides, accessible roof, wheels, windscreen, dashboard, mileage and fuel or charge level. Report discrepancies before driving away and ask for the record to be updated. Check the booked equipment and whether passengers and bags fit safely. Familiarise yourself with essential controls before joining traffic. Keep the original dated photographs rather than replacing them with edited images. A clear, systematic set is more useful than a few dark pictures taken in a hurry while another driver is waiting behind you.
Fuel, charging and crossing borders
Your contract determines the fuel or charging policy. Returning below the required level may add both the missing energy cost and a service charge. For an electric vehicle, clarify the expected return charge and any provided charging card or account. If your itinerary crosses a national border, tell the rental company when booking. EU-valid liability insurance does not mean every destination is authorised under the rental agreement. Check local driving requirements and any low-emission zones for the cities you will visit. Build those checks into the itinerary instead of leaving them until a road sign appears.
Return the vehicle with an evidence trail
Save the return address and route before the last journey, leaving enough time to continue to the terminal. A nearby public car park is not automatically the rental return area. Retain the final fuel or charging receipt where relevant. Photograph the vehicle again, including the dashboard and parking position. For an out-of-hours return, follow the key procedure precisely and ask when inspection takes place. A drop box makes returning keys possible, but does not by itself confirm that staff have checked the car or that the account has been closed without further charges.
Compare a car with the complete public-transport alternative
For a stay mainly within one city, compare hire with the relevant coach, rail and local transfers. Add overnight parking, fuel, possible road charges and return time to the rental calculation. A group or rural itinerary has different needs and may justify a car more readily. The decision should follow the entire route rather than a general assumption that hiring is always cheaper or more convenient. Our Charleroi terminal, coach and rail guides help compare workable alternatives. Obtain quotations for your actual dates; no universal daily price can reliably describe every rental.

Frequently asked questions
Does prepayment remove the deposit?
Not necessarily. A guarantee may still be required for unprepaid charges or possible damage.
Does 24-hour return mean collection at any time?
No. Collection and return arrangements must be checked separately.
Does a comparison-site policy replace the rental company’s cover?
It depends on the product. External excess reimbursement can leave the deposit and an upfront payment requirement in place.
